Print On Demand Publishing

About Print-on-Demand Publishing

Our goal at To His Glory Publishing Company, Inc. is to partner with authors in order to create well written, professional and high quality books that are positioned for today’s global distribution using print-on-demand approach.

To His Glory Publishing Company uses the ‘print-on-demand’ publishing process. This innovation has forever changed the world of book publishing by making it faster and much less expensive to launch a new book or editions of a previously published book. We can help you develop your manuscript into a high-quality, well-edited, perfect bound trade paperback and have it available for sale by the world’s largest booksellers in a matter of months.

Potential bestsellers that only ask for a chance to test the market need not languish on editors’ desks. Topical manuscripts need no longer gather dust and wait until they are out of phase with current market interests. Worthy books that may not be million-dollar sellers need not go out of print. Unique books, written for specialized audiences, can now be published regardless of the size of their market niche.

The Problem Faced by Authors, Publishers and Bookstores

Authors of many excellent unpublished manuscripts find it extremely frustrating to get the attention of traditional publishers. Authors with worthy manuscripts may play the “submit and wait” game for months before traditional publishing houses evaluate their books. Even when a reading results, the current rejection rate is estimated to be over 99%! Traditional publishers shy away from unproven authors. Rather, they are increasingly inclined to concentrate on the high-powered marketing of a few works of established authors and big sellers.

Catch 22: Few traditional publishers will consider a new book unless it is recommended by a trusted agent, but agents will not take on new writers until they are established authors.

Traditional publishers need mass sales to defray initial investments and yield a profit. Even authors of “less profitable” books are often unable to convince their publishers to print another run or edition. As a result, many excellent books go out-of-print every year. Writers addressing ‘niche markets’ face a similar problem: while there is a great need for books that target specific, limited audiences (e.g. genre fiction, textbooks, poetry, family histories and biographies, guides and manuals, to name a few), publishers decline to print them because of their limited market segment.

Why are traditional publishing houses so adverse to risk? Because they are squeezed on every side by increasing costs of editing, designing, printing, and then warehousing and distributing their books. The situation is further exacerbated because large and small bookstores and chains now ask publishers to assume the whole risk. If a particular books title does not sell well, the publisher is obligated to buy it back. The whole industry got tighter when it suffered a major “return crisis” from 1996 to 1998 and an unprecedented number of unsold books were returned. At that time, print-on-demand publishing moved towards becoming the industry norm.

The Solution

To His Glory Publishing Company combines the latest, high-quality pre-press technology, excellent editing and design with on-demand printing technology. Our unique process greatly speeds the conversion of a manuscript into a published book. Here is how it works: Once a manuscript is put into digital format, and the editing and graphic work is completed, it is ready to be print-on-demand. Through contract arrangements between To His Glory Publishing Company and a major high capacity printing company, the digital files containing your book are stored in a secure database at the printing location. As customers place their orders electronically through one of the on-line booksellers, print orders are sent simultaneously to the printer. Your book, whether in a small run or even a single copy will be produced and sent directly to the buyers within a few days.

Publishing by the Book

The new digital printing technology has dramatically reduced the cost of printing small runs of books. To His Glory Publishing Company can now have one, ten or a thousand books printed at once without the additional costs and risk of maintaining a large inventory on hand. Because each book is digitally stored in a database, a book published on-demand need never go out of print and will not pile up unsold in a warehouse. Online bookstores with unlimited ‘shelf space’ are able to carry far more books and reach a much larger audience than traditional bookstores. Today, the largest physical bookstores may reach, at most, hundreds of thousands of store visitors per year. Rural areas, towns and small cities may not have access to most books through local sources. By contract, the ‘big three’ online booksellers are open 24 hours every day to well over 150 million Internet users and that number is increasing daily as new subscribers throughout the world gain access to the Internet.

What This Means to the Author

We focus on producing high-quality books which means we want to provide you with the best publishing services possible. If you are like most authors who come to us, you have worked very hard on your manuscript and you want to see it published in the best form possible. You also want a thoughtful and a well-designed cover that attracts the reader. Meaning that you want a book that looks beautiful, properly formatted, well edited and professionally produced. To put it another way, To His Glory Publishing Company may not be the cheapest publishing service you can find but we are efficient, professional and within that framework of quality – very affordable. To His Glory Publishing Company may not even be the quickest in the field but since every book we publish receives at least one complete technical edit and is individually designed, it makes us much more than a quick printer. To His Glory Publishing Company seeks to be the most flexible and highest quality on-demand publishing service provider.

Rights and Royalties

Our customized publishing services extend to arrangements with authors regarding rights and royalties. We do have a liberal standard contract which we will send you once you are accepted for publishing and we understand that our authors may have special requirements in terms of rights and royalties. We will negotiate whatever exceptions are needed to meet individual author’s needs. The information presented on this page should serve as a general orientation to how our publishing agreements work. It is not a contract.

Rights

All our books will be copyrighted to the author. Once To His Glory Publishing Company and the author have reached an agreement to publish a manuscript, we send the author a publishing agreement (contract) to review. This agreement contains a detailed description of the rights of both To His Glory Publishing Company and the author. Generally, the author grants To His Glory Publishing Company exclusive rights for the term of the contract to publish and sell the work in book form, electronic form, and to license publication by another publisher. In the agreement, the author also warrants among other things, that he or she is the author of the manuscript and the owner of all rights granted to To His Glory Publishing Company and further agrees to obtain written permission for any copyrighted material incorporated into the manuscript.

Royalties

Traditional publishers generally pay to the author royalties of 6-10% of the book’s listed price. By contrast, To His Glory Publishing Company pays a royalty of 50% to the author based on Publisher Print Receipts for each copy of the work sold. Publisher Print Receipts is defined as the payments the publisher actually receives from the sales of printed copies of the work, less printing costs and any returns. To His Glory Publishing Company will make royalty payments to the author within sixty days of the end of each calendar quarter once royalties due to the author are $30 or more.
